I'm trying to set up Windows 2k to share some files and a printer over a network. I had no problems setting up the shared folders, etc., and it seemed to work, but when I tried to access my computer over the network from another computer (my roomate's, no less) it asked for the password for the /IPC$ directory. So i tried to remove the /IPC$ directory from the shared folders in Computer Management, but that didn't change anything, and it keeps coming back anyway. However, i'm not allowed to view the preferences of the /IPC$ directory, so i can't change the password (i didn't even pick a password in the first place). Does anyone know how to address this problem, or another way to access files over a network?

had the same thing.
try going to start, settings, control panel,
users and passwords, then click on advance tab. then go to advance button.then double click on users. then you will probably see a red x on guest. double click on guest and make sure only password never expirers is selected.hope this helps

Thanks, that fixed the password thing, but now it says "Server doesn't support transactions" -- any idea?

WinNT wonīt let you manage shared resources on a per-folder basis, because itīs a real network operating system!
It needs to validate users before granting access to resources, so it needs a list of users with permissions to reside on a domain controller(in a domain) or in the WinNT PC(in a peer-to-peer network). You have to create user profiles in your PC, with the exact network logins of your guests.
This list can be used to grant access to others PCs.
