My domain is called CIS(is this OK?) and my servers are called frodo(DC) and frodo1(BDC). Frodo is the DNS server and resolves frodo, frodo.cis, frodo1 and frodo1.cis. However I get an error in the FRS log saying that it can't resolve frodo1.cis, hence no sysvol share etc.
Can anyone help?
William
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: NtFrs
Event Category: None
Event ID: 13508
Date: 13/01/2003
Time: 8:15:13 PM
User: N/A
Computer: FRODO
Description:
The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from FRODO1 to FRODO for c:\winnt\sysvol\domain using the DNS name frodo1.CIS. FRS will keep retrying.
Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning.
[1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name frodo1.CIS from this computer.
[2] FRS is not running on frodo1.CIS.
[3] The topology information in the Active Directory for this replica has not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers.
This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem is fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the connection has been established. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Yes, the domain name is fine. There are no BDCs in Windows 2000.
Is there are sysvol folder on that machine. At a command prompt type ' net share ' and see if it is there. Make sure the times are sync'ed also. This can cause this problem. It is not saying it can't resolve the name, it is saying that is one of the possibilities. Is the File replication service running on the machine? - both machines for that matter.
Are these DCs in the same site? If not, are there site links configured?

Sorry about that! We upgraded from NT4 a couple of months ago and I can't get BDC's out of my head!Time sync is OK and FRS is running on both. No sysvol share shows on the frodo1. I am sure that Active Directory has not replicted the domain controllers.

Hi,
If you don't see the sysvol share check the
this registry parameter;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters\SysvolReadyit must be "1" ( Hex value )
if it is zero FRS does not start the sysvol share.
DCDIAg.exe is the very usefull tool for the verification of AD.I advice to you use it .Otherone is NLTEST .You can find them from Server Setup CD\Support Tools

I have the same problems with my servers. I checked the file replication service on both machines and the time. I know the sysvol share is there because I see the share and see in the event viewer where it intialized. Let me know if you fixed this problem.
Thanks, Brad
