I can't istall win2k pro. I need some help!
Here's what I have/what I've done:
Just built a new system:

Gigabyte 7DXR
(2) IBM 40.1G Hard Drive

- created an array for performance (RAID
0).
- Put in the windows 2000 cd and booted
to it. Started the install and pushed F6 to
specify my raid controller.
- Put in the disk provided by Promise tech.
- Let win2k partition and format my array
for NTFS.
- it started installing all the way to the first
reboot. as it was starting backup it went
right to a blue STOP screen saying
something about not finding my hard
drive. I've seen this before, so I knew it
was something with my raid controllers.
- Updated the firmware of my IBM hard
drives, updated my bios, and obtained the
latest drivers for my Promise Fastrak 100.
- Recreated my array, and went through
the same procedure but this time with
everything updated and the updated
promise controllers.
- Got to the same point and now it just
freezes at "Verifying DMI pool". I tried
disabling all boot devices except the RAID
IDE-0 in the bios, and it still hangs.

This is where i'm stuck. I'm thinking
maybe i'll try and create a smaller 4Gig
partition just for win2k install. Anyone
have any suggestions? Would the service
pack of win2k pro make a difference? I'm
running the very first version out. Thanks
for your time.

Oh ya, and not using raid is not an option
:)

I had a similar problem with a Promise FastTrak66. My eventual solution was to add an extra spare HDD and installed Win2k on that. Then I was able to force install the drivers for the Promise...

Then used Partition Magic 6 to slice up the partitions for Win2k and moved the Win2k installed to the right partition.

Strangely, the Win98 install went without a hitch and it saw the RAID0 Ok.!

Let me know if this works for you...

Good Luck...

Sounds to me like there's a problem with the Promise drivers. Both of you had the same problem. Double check the Promise website and make sure you have the right drivers. Win 2000 will find the card right away.

Also, check your BIOS. In my case I have built in Ultra 66 ports on my motherboard. I had to disable my hard drive to NONE. I had the right drivers and did everything right way but Win2000 just could not see the hard drive until I disabled "Harddisk 0" in the BIOS.

Hope this helps

Na man sorry!! Raid wont work with Win2k Pro.
U have 2 use Win2k Server. That's the best. I assembled my comp too, and did a raid 0 with promise using 2 40 gb maxtor 7200 rpm hard drives. i updated the bios and it made it worse, so i just put everthing back to normal and now i'm using 2kserver. its amazing man trust me!!
