OS: 2000 pro
CPU/Ram: athlon xp 2400+ 512DDR

If i fdisk using a win98 boot disk, because it will only fdisk to make the hd a fat 32. when i go to install xp pro will xp pro setup then format my hd to make it ntfs again?

It will be an option, you can leave it as FAT32 if you like. NTFS would be better though.

You can choose to format to NTFS during installation. you can also convert from FAT32 to NTFS after installation using a third party program, such as Partition Magic.

Windows XP Home edition can be upgraded to Windows XP Professional edition. Windows XP Home cannot be used to upgrade Windows NT 4.0 Workstation or Windows 2000 Professional. If you need to upgrade one of these two OSes, you must use Windows XP Professional.

If I get your question, you want to install XP, but want to use fdisk first to create/delete partitions. Why don't you just pop in the XP CD and do that. It should basically do all of that (without bootdisc since it's self bootable with the create/delete partition commands).

try gdisk.exe instead. It's much more powerful than fdisk and is executed from the command line giving you more control.

Search google for gdisk.exe

i go exactly with what kevin says put your xp cd in and do all of that in setup save you wasting time looking for third party software makes sense keving no offense guys but that seems the most logical
