Hi guys,

I am a Windows NT Administrator for a large company, and we use Windows 2000 server, Windows 2003 server, Citrix Metaframe XP and PS4.
I have a strange issue with Windows Fax printers appearing on our NFUSE servers.

For info on what NFUSE is, and a basic view of how it works, please look here: http://articles.techrepublic.com.co...

The Windows FAX printer keeps reappearing after its deleted, and won't stay away.

The problem with this is that the FAX printers are installed as if by admin, and when they appear, users printing from that same NFUSE server over the net, sometimes simply cannot print.

In their online printer management, the FAX printer shows up. As this was installed as admin (I think this is because every time it reboots in its scheduled reboot rota, it installs on startup) this takes presidence over their installed printers, and they are not able to print to their normal printer.

The customers cannot remove this FAX printer themselves as it was installed directly on the server at boot up, so they don't have the rights to remove it, but it therefore becomes their default, and until we remove it from the NFUSE server directly, they are pretty much screwed.

Now, we delete the printers, but they come back.
I have removed the printer Windows NT FAX driver from the server properties when in Printer settings window.
I disable the FAX service in computer management.
Still no joy.

My question is really this:

How do I remove it and stop it coming back? We have a large environment, and I am wondering if GPO is making these re-install each time. I am not sure where to look for this if this is the case.

I do not think that there are any local printer polices which would do this on the machine as I've checked for these (but please state any known places to check in case I've overlooked :-))

Anything to go on is helpful, and if anyone requires any more info, I will try to answer as best I can .

I appreciate any or all comments, constructive or otherwise.

Many thanks

Alex
