So each time I try to turn on my computer and boot to windows, with safe mode, or just regular boot, I get a wonderful blue screen
that says
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
****ADDRESS ______ BASE AT ______, DATESTAMP ______ -usbkbd.sys

each blank space is filled with some hex.

and then some more about if this is not the first time you've seen this check the BIOS and update drivers and such.

i cannot boot to the operating system at all.
any help?

based on te error it looks like the issue is with your keyboard. make sure you have usb kb enabled in your bios (using a ps2 first). then see if you can find different drivers before trying the usb kb again

Check for a legacy setting in the bios. This helps work with a USB keyboard when available. If the bios is correctly configured then try the repair for Windows 2000.Make the boot disks set(4 diskettes).Find boot disk folder on the Windows 2k cd.Open and click on one of the make icon. You need a working Windows system to make the disks(Windows 9X or better).Boot the clearly numbered diskettes on the bad computer with the win2k cd inserted.Choose the repair option. You don't need the emergency disk when asked for it.Choose all the options that make the system repair all by itself. The program looks for a Winnt folder and makes the repair. It takes a few seconds and the computer reboots.Remove the last diskette before the final reboot.I am amazed that XP does not offer this kind of repair and offers only the odd recovery console with limited appeal for the end user for lack of automatic and direct approach as with the Windows 2000 system.Good luck.

2000 cd should be bootable, no need for bootdisk floppies

well so i left the bluescreen up and after about 2 hours of browsing the web and taking a break on my other computer, around 1am in a silent basement i hear that familiar windows tune play as my computer logs in. it just randomly decided to go right on into windows. I havent rebooted it since in fear I wouldnt get back in, and have begun to back-up everything of value. Its running slower than ever and some drivers got screwed up so to avoid further hastle ive opted to just format it. Im still debating to go with win2000 or go for XP.

but when im done backing everything up, I'll give that recovery option a try and see how it goes. Maybe it can save me some time.

and my google searching shows that usbkbd.sys is mostly associated with OS2. so i dont get that.
