External CDroom writer driver

I have an External CDroom writer(compact) which connected to the lacei case to provide the power...and the CD connected to the pc by USB port but when i plug it, the windows define it as a mass storege at the usb ports in the device manager.
i tried to redefine it as cd writer but no way the pc could recognise it .
Summary: Hi Has anybody got the drivers for a HP 8100 external CD-Writer plus for Windows 2000. Hp only have a cd to buy but I really can't wait until they send one. Help Thanks ...
