After logging into my system, explorer.exe won't start. All I have is my background and no icons or start menu or task bar or nothing..nada!
Help!

You might want to try to reapply your service pack. You may be able to start your desktop by starting Task Manager. Hopefully a Ctrl-Alt-Del will still bring up Task Manager. If so, click on the Applications Tab, click New Task and type explorer.exe. With any luck, your desktop will start.
Good luck.

I've tried that. All it does is flashes and then goes blank again. I do, however, still get the task manager.

Ive had the same problem before and the solution was one that I didn't like at all.
It seems that my explorer.exe was corrupted, even though you may not have to do this if you're lucky, I had to reinstall all of Windows 2000, but maybe if your lucky, you know somebody with the same WIndows 2000 with your same Service Pack. Just copy the explorer.exe from the one PC and put in on yours (this is hard to do since you cant get to a run box but Im sure you will figure it out :) ) and try that but chances are you will have to start from the beginning...

Go to microsoft.com and download a Windows 2000 service pack (Doesn't matter which, just hope it includes explorer.exe). Then burn the Setup file onto a CD, and run it from home. Go to New Task from the Task Manager, and run the file (change to your CD drive and choose the setup file in the browse window). It should start installing the service pack, and if it installs explorer.exe, you're fine.
Another option to try, is getting a windows 2000 CD, booting up the computer with it and trying to (R)epair the system. I'm not sure if this will help, though worth a try.
