OS: W2K
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon 1.050 GHz, 768
Comment:

This problem just came out of the blue. And it has been driving me nuts since then.

THE PROBLEM -

When I click to search files on my computer or I click on the windows explorer, I get the following error message. I have restarted my computer several times. It hasn't helped.

The instruction at "0x02d41cbe" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. Click CANCEL to debug the program.

Should anyone know a solution to this problem, please let me know. I have an AMD Athlon 1.050 GHz system with Windows 2K Professional.

Thanks.

Amit

I have the exact same problem. I don't know what caused it, it seemed like I might have just been taxing IE a little too much, but now it won't work at all (IE and explorer) - it seems as if the core components that make both work have failed. I have tried the repair process for both Win2K and IE and uninstalled and reinstalled IE 6.0. I have also tried going to a prevoiusly backed up registry version (I had this problem before and that worked, but not this time) I have Service Pack 3 installed and most of the recent updates, 24 hours ago this system worked perfectly, now it works except for explorer. I have noticed that explorer works fine in safe mode....
I have a 2.0 GHZ P4 but I don't think it's a hardware problem.
Here's a list of the apps I have installed that run on startup:
Plextor Manager
Daemon Tools
ZoneAlarm
Trillian
Microsoft Intellipoint
Musicmatch jukebox
Realplayer

Also, when IE gives me the error report, it consistently tells me it's a problem with "flt.dll" but I cannot find this dll file... Only ones with similar names that seem to have no relevance to IE (I found a Kodak file).

Any help would be appreciated, I REALLY don't want to reinstall my OS - it would be difficult with my current configuration.

Also, the dialog boxes that allow you to open/save a file work fine - so something with explorer must be working. Netscape also has no problems.

I just solved the problem! A long time ago in a galaxy far away I installed IMesh on my machine - bad idea - the thing contained spyware that it never unistalled and it came back to haunt me, but now I've deleted it. For anyone who might have the same problem the name of culprit files are:

flt.dll
ftapp.dll

First though you need to unregister them:
regsvr32 /u "C:\program files\flt\flt.dll"
regsvr32 /u "C:\program files\ftapp\ftapp.dll"

delete their parent directories after you type those 2 commands into the "run" box. Good luck!

I had this same thing yesterday. I would recommend that after you run the unregistration you search through the registry to be sure that all references to flt.dll and flt.mon are actually gone. We found remenants on a 98 machine. Please though if you're not familiar with the registry seek professional help... Dial a nerd or something.
