I have recently successfully set up a Win98/2000 dual boot system. I was in the process of upgrading the drivers on my monster 3d card, but after successfully upgrading I now cannot use Win98.
Explorer.exe is crashing upon startup (in normal or safe mode) and I cannot figure how to get the system repaired.I thought of reinstalling the Win98 software, but was afraid it may cause damage to the Win2000 OS.
Since Explorer.exe keeps crashing I cannot use MSCONFIG to alter the startup in any fashion, nor use regedit to remove the offending entries, my only recourse seems to use DOS mode to try to repair what is wrong. I've tried to create a bootdisk (floppy) but the floppy isn't initialized (not sure why...)

Ok, let talk about the many crash of explorer.exe, i have two machine with the same problem of crashing with explorer.exe
the first is a dual boot with win2k+win98 with ATI All-in-Wonder Pro 128 and of course
DIRECTX 8, and the second machine a dual boot
with only Win98 install for now, a graphic card ATI RAGE FURY PRO AGP 4x...and of course
DIRECTX 8, I Have many crash of EXPLORER.exe
on both machines in Win98 and Win2k.....Very
Strange the only same factor is DIRECTX 8...
I Reload my Windows2000 3 TIMES this week and
of course all the time with DIRECTX 8, the same problem occur every time, I blank all my
drives with DATA ERASER to be shure is was not a VIRUS on both machine then and i
reload Win98 on the first machine and on the second i reload Win2k......watch the results...Machine 1 reload with WIN98 ver.2 with directx8 = after many hours to be on, i have done nothing under windows and it crash
in EXPLORER.exeMachine 2 reload with win2k without DIRECTX8
and nothing append with hours of internet or
explorer and so on....Maybe your are in a similar position as me
I have been very suspecious about DIRECTX8...Viper The One
