None of my exe files would run, could not cut and paste, could not print.
I spent 8 hours with MS tech on phone Sat 8/23/03, he came up with nothing out of his extensive database. Installed win2000 in another folder. Lost lot of files, especially outlook address book and folders.
Still have the original win2000 that I can load, but exe files won't work. I need critical files in this os.
Scanned for virus/trojan, found lots.
MS tech said temp fix was to rename exe to com. did not work for all.
Did find that all virus scanners are not equal. Best I found is eAnthology STOP-SIGN ( www.eanthology.com ) It found virus/trojans that 3 other scanners did not.
Still think there is a fix out there for the exe files. Any help??? PLEASE!!

Kendall;
Grab your Win2k cd & put it in the drive,
got to START/RUN & type sfc /scannow.
(system file checker)It scans & checks the critical system files & replaces if necessary to origional condition. This process takes awhile so you may want to do something else for a bit.
Hope it works for you
good luck

Kendall;
Did you go to the Windows update site & get the latest updates & fixes?
there is a short virus scanner that only looks for the latest & most common 30 viruses that I have found to be quick & through. It's free & called "stinger".

curleyrl, thanks for the suggestions. I found the sfc file, but it don't like the scannow command.
I did use stinger.
I got the latest win2000 fixes from MS.
Any other ideas??
Thanks

Kendall,
You might want to try going to Symantec site and running all the latest removal tools (hopefully your computer will allow it). W32.Blaster.worm; W32.Welchia.worm; etc. Reboot your PC and login as the administrator on the machine...open IE and navigate to symantec.com go to their download section and run their removal tools for the latest viruses.I have a few suggestions. First shut down your PC and remove your network cable from your PC and see if that works. If not then use a Windows 98 bootup disk and boot into DOS. Within DOS try to open your executables. Good luck.
