Exchange 2k Server and POP3 Access

Running Exchange 2000 Server SP3 and having lots of problems with POP3 access. NOTE: This is an upgrade for Exchange 5.5, which worked perfectly before the upgrade.
When trying to use a POP3 client to connect to the server, the program either hangs or gives the error: Connection to host lost. Tried connecting to my server using Telnet on port 110 (no default ports changed) and receive this error: -- +OK Microsoft Exchange 2000 POP3 server version 6.0.6249.0 (gusd01.gustine.k12.c a.us) ready.
