We have just migrated to a new server - win2000 and exchange 2000.
Migrated everyone over to the new domain etc - all working fine
However exchange is showing a few problems. All internal email works fine. External email is intermittent problem. SOme messages are not being delivered - for example
"Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

peter.smith@transport.alstom.com on 08/11/2001 14:41
The message reached the recipient's e-mail system, but delivery was refused. Attempt to resend the message. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
"

It is not just any particular email address but a wide range. Sometimes they get through and other times they do not.
Have checked DNS and that seems to be ok

has any one any ideas of where I could look to next??
thanx

Louise,

My organization is having the exact same problem there are a few addresses that we cant send to. Its definitely a dns problem. Our exchange server is behind a windows 2000 ISA firewall. We use NAT in the office so the exchange server can see the outside world. I have removed the IP address of our ISP from the exchange server and now its using root servers. All is working ok I guess than before! Its still not working 100% I will take your e-mail address and contact you if I figure out a long term solution, could you do the same for me?

also lol from your network you might try and connect to the remote domain that the mail is not sending to....for example

telnet domain 25
give it a HELO command to see if its working.
