I'm trying to install Mcafee on a system, however I keep getting prompted by Mcafee that I need to remove Etrust Antivirus before proceeding.

There's no uninstaller in Control Panel - Add/Remove programs, I've checked in Start - Programs and no mention of it. It almost appears lik somebody ran the uninstaller and Mcafee is freaking out over nothing. The only trace I could find of the program was in Program Files\CA\Shared Resources or whatever it's called. I looked in the registry: HKEY_Local_Machine - Software and there's no mention of it there either. Hijack This showed two mentions so I deleted those and McAfee is still freaking out.

Help!

Did you use the find tool in the registry to search for it? If the manufacturer's name is diffferent, search for that too.

eTrust is from Computer Associates. So you might need to do a registry search (regedit.exe) on the company name. I'd check that on the HDD as well.

I've used the find in regedit, and I've wiped any mention of Computer Associates and eTrust Antivirus - including in C:\. But McAfee is still detecting it.....

Is there a service associated with the program?

Download msconfig.exe which will work on w2k. Look at the startup tab. You might see something.
Better yet, use an AV from Trend Micro and forget all that BS.

I checked out services.msc and didn't see anything related to computer associates or eTrust. MSConfig didn't show anything either.

Heh, I'm partial to nod32 myself.
