I have a Compaq 5202 with an ES1869 sound card running windows 2000. Whenever I attempt to set the volume through the controls, the bar immediately slides back down to to the bottom (no sound). I have searched the web for MONTHS hoping that SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE would have some idea about this behavior and have found NOTHING!! I sure would like to think that SOMEONE out there has seen this. Then I can stop believing that it's in my own head, that I'm hallucinating!!!!!
It's been about 3 years since I even thought about this stupid behavior but,yes I have seen it.
It was on a Win98 system with a Sound Blaster 16 card. If I remember correctly, all I ended up doing was unchecking the box that allowed Windows to control the resources, and set the resources to a different option. Then rebooted and forgot about it.
