Hello, I have an IBM R30 thinkpad with Win 2k pro. Yesterday the PC did not boot, I got the following message "error loading operating system". When I tried to boot from the Win 2K CD I got the message that the partition was damaged or unformatted. When I boot from a Win98 floppy and I run fdisk, the partition is visible (Fat32) and I can see all data on the disk. Now is my question: Why does this problem occur and how can I prevent it from happening? I already had the last BIOS version installed en set the BIOS options to the defaults.

more than likely it was caused by a virus. i just went through the same thing myself except the system partition i was dealing with wasn't FAT, it was ntfs.....doh!! so i had to reformat & reinstall. try to find out what file is causing the problem. should be something like: \winnt\system32\config\system.(ext) replace this corrupted file with the one from your "repair" directory.
