My friend has window 2k pro on her notebook. Oneday she turns on her notebook and when it is booting up the black screen shows up saying "Error loading operating system".
May be she loose Ntldr, ntdetect and boot.ini files. You'll find them on win2k cd on i386 folder copy them to the root if they are really losing and restart.

try the safe mode to load and look for errors for safemode press f8 while booting up it will give you a list of options
