hello there everyone. i'm having this problem of formatting my pc (win2k pro; FAT32 file system). i've tried typing "format c:" in the msdos prompt and tried going to the file menu and then format the c drive but it keeps on producing a message that it cannot format the selected drive because it is currently in use. why is that so? is there something i missed doing? i actually have formatted my pc twice(win98) before but forgot the controls to use prior to formatting, can anyone please remind me? i can't remember if it is "ctrl + c" i should press first upon bootup. my first two formatting is easy and i encountered no problem. a friend is also having the same problem but the difference is her file system's NTFS. what should i do? any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

You are getting this message because you are trying to format from within windows, boot from a windows 98 boot disk or download one from www.bootdisk.com, and type format c: from the prompt that comes up after booting the disk.

Or, you can just boot to the Win 2K CD and reinstall (reformatting at that time) the OS.

Set your bios to boot from the CDROM . W2K setup will start. When you get to the 3 option install, repair etc. choose install. Follow the prompts ie. delete partition / format etc. HTH
