Subject: Error 7b - inaccessible boot device
OS: win 2000 nt pro
CPU/Ram: 1000Mhz P4 / 512
Comment:

I have been using win 98 se and decided to install win 2000 nt pro because there is software which I need which will not run on 98.
I installed it by inserting the disk while in 98, and it went through the complete installation process then asked me to restart.
When I restarted, I was asked to choose between loading win 98 or win 2000 pro setup. The window then tells me that is is loading up all the drivers etc and then flickers to a dark blue screen with the message "STOP: 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"

I have tried booting from the floppies which I made using the program on the installation cd but I just get the message that the txtsetup.sif file is corrupt.

Help please?

Thanks

I'd suggest that you backup the data on your hard drive, wipe it out, then start the W2K installation by booting from the OS CD...

I'm coming to that conclusion as well. how do I wipe the HD though? do I have to download a wipe program from the HD manufacturer or something?
I take it you mean the win2k OS CD?

Thanks

Make sure there isn't any data on the drive you need because when you wipe it out you loose everything.
Then either go to a Windows 98 machine and create a Startup disk, or else poke around the web and find an image for one. Then boot from the Windows 98 Startup disk and type "FDISK" (select Yes on any message windows that appear). Then go through the menus and delete all partitons, then create a partition (there is a menu choice that lets you display the existing partitions, so you can see what ones you need to delete).
Then reboot with the Windows 98 Startup disk again and type "FDISK /MBR". Then boot from the Windows 2000 OS CD and you can start trying to reinstall Windows 2000.
If that doesn't answer your question, try starting a new post and I'm sure someone can help you go through the steps...
