Ok, I need help quick. The computer that is having problems right now acts as a webserver and it's already been down for a couple of days. Not good. Here's my problem... When I boot Windows 2000, I get this:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
<windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.I looked the error up and found that this can be linked to a bad boot.ini entry. I know that's the problem because I was messing with the boot.ini file just before the error appeared. Somehow I screwed it up and I'm kicking myself for it.
So, I need to know how I can open and edit the boot.ini file outside of Windows 2000 since I can't boot into it. The partition is using NTFS. Also, I don't have any of the emergency repair floppy disks (I think that's what they are called). Thanks.

Is this what you are looking for?
If it is, then the answer is use your Win2k CD.
I also have some information on my website (Homepage link) on boot.ini files you may be interested in reading.

☺ When everything else fails, read the instructions.

On my Win 2000 machine there is a backup of boot.ini in the C:\WINNT\pss directory.
Here is a thread on this subject from a previous post on this topic. Don't be put off by the fact that it's an XP question, it's exactly the same for 2000.

Raincheck,
Thank you!! I booted to the Recovery Console on the Windows 2000 setup disk and copied the backup boot.ini you mentioned to c:\, added the proper attributes and it worked! Everything is now running smoothly again. Again, thank you very much. :)
