I had been having problems after removing Mandrake Linux for my system. More precisely, after getting rid of Linux I still had LILO.
Rebooting with an MS-DOS disk and using fdisk /mbr didn't work for me, saying that a backup of the mbr couldn't be done.
So I ran the Win2000 cd and selected the "Repair" option. On the command prompt type fixmbr and it will reset your MBR in a sec. Very easy, worked for me. Use it under your own risk.
