cheers,

I tried the steps in your reply and could not find eAnthology download receiver in Ad/Remove ? And i still can't deactivate the eAnthology in order to remove it. Could you give me their email address, i went to their site and there is no way to contact them?
glenna

hi glenna,
i e-mailed them at support@acceleration.com, and they replied after almost a week. from these directions which they sent me, i was only able to find the file defscangui.exe in my pc. they'll probably send you the same e-mail as they sent me, so i would suggest you search for any files starting with 'eanth' and start from there. there should be a few folders named acceleration or accelerator scattered through your computer, and running ad-aware and the cleaner is a good bet!
let me know if i can be of any more help.
good luck,
josie

this is a pain. how did this get loaded. I am certain that I did not download anything from this company. I am going to charge this company for my time to undo what they have done to my computer.
has anyone been able to get it off?

I can't quite determine where I got it from either, but it seems to be one of the applications that gets downloaded and installed (another one is called "topMoxie") without the user requesting it by an application called "PowerReg Scheduler". This is not part of a standard Windows installation, and does appear to be the culprit. If you've found Stop Sign or topMoxie or other applications you don't remember installing, look in Start > Programs > StartUp. If Powerup Scheduler is there, that's likely the source of your aggrivation. To remove stop sign without wiping your HD (something that occurred to me in a fit of rage at this Spyware):
1) Right-click on the stop sign in the task bar and shut it down. It should disappear.
2) Go into the Add/Remove Programs section under the Control Panel, and select the eAnthology entry. Click on Change/Remove. A window will prompt you to start some sort of Manager. Go ahead and do this, because it's the only non-violent way I've found to start getting this crap off of the machine.
3) In the manager, click through all of the tabs (something like 4 of them)... there's a button toward the lower right corner of the window that will either say "Deactivate" or "Activate Now". When the components in eAnthology are running the buttons will say "Deactivate", so the object is to get them to not say that. Clicking them if they say "Deactivate" works as advertised. Also be sure to check the box in the far lower left... this will terminate any processes eAnthology may still be running.
4) Go back to the Add/Remove Programs screen, and this time the Change/Remove button works like you'd expect it to, and a whole bunch of new crap is in the Recycle Bin.
5) If PowerReg Scheduler is in your Startup folder, delete it!
6) Restart. There may be one more program that PowerReg Scheduler has downloaded and installed without permission in the waiting, and a restart will bring it out.
So far, this seems to have worked. I'd really like to know what caused Power Reg Scheduler to show up in the first place... it says it's been on my Ssytem since March 27, 2002, which means it's been dormant for half a year. Ugly little thing.
