Comment:

I have recently pruchased a refurbushed Toshiba Tecra 8200. It has a CD/DVD drive and initially it wouldn't play DVDs. I have downloaded and installed DirectX 8.1 and DVD player software (can't remember what one). I tested stuff yesterday, Phantom of Opera plays fine, Pirates of Caribbean is distorted. I have a CSI PC game which is a DVD rom and it will not play. I get "please insert a disk in the drive" even when it is in. Please help as I am a computer muppet.

Apparently, there is a problem w/ the drive. Why buy rebuilt when new is cheap. I bought a Liteon for under sixty dollars that does all that. www.tigerdirect.com
