DVD Burner wont recognize DVD+R

My new Sony DRU-510A dual format dvd burner only recognizes DVD-R (haven't a DVD-RW to try). Burned 2 DVD-R's OK. Problem is that I can't format a DVD+RW or write to a DVD+R. Tried memorex and HP DVD+R , +RW media and they are not recognized. Anyone familiar with this kind of thing. DVDINFOPRO does not show DVD+R, +RW as being supported but it recognizes it as the sony 510A!

Hi,

Does your dvd writer support dvd rewrite?

Not all support the rewrite function.

So read the booklet that came with the dvd and see if it supports rewrite...

Check if there is a firmware upgrade available.

I bought a NEC dvd+r/rw burner and I had to install a firmware upgrade to burn dvd-r/rw

The solution turned out to be getting rid of the SIS Bus Master IDE Via controller. Once I removed that everything worked fine.
