Dual boot with Win2000 and Win98 cable modem problem. Can only access Win2000. I just spent 2 hours on the phone with Roadrunner last night trying to get it to work with win98 (win2000 was a breeze) and even though they show a great connection, and we can ping each other, and my winipcfg shows a good address, AND at RoadRunner they show a very strong signal going into my house, and my other 2 computers work great with roadrunner and Win98, and after a full re-install of Win98 last night, I cannot get it to work, and even they were completely baffled. Anyways, I'm thinking now that Win2000 (maybe in the boot sector or menu) locks it and won't let go of it. Maybe it thinks that it is the master regardless of the boot menu. I run the modem cable into a hub and seperate lines run from the hub to the computers. All work EXCEPT the Win98 that is dualbooted with Win2000. Can someone please shed some info on this please? Thanks.

I had the exact same problem with @home cable but only it was reversed, it worked fine in 98 but not at all in 2k. Had a tech here for two hours and he couldn't figure it out, when he left I popped out the pci lan card and tried an old isa slot card and it worked perfectly in both. Since then, I have went back to a different brand of pci lan card and it still works fine. I have found win2k to be a bit picky about what lan cards I have tried. Right now 3Com seems to work the best. Lynksys works but I get packet loss while in multi-player Q3, D-Link works fine when it works but some mornings I would have to un and re-install it to get a connection. Since going to a 3Com, I have had no troubles at all.
