I have an ati radeon 9200se agp card. I have one monitor plugged into the vga hole, and another plugged into the dvi via an adapter. The radeon has 2 display adaptors, a primary and a secondary. The thing is i cant get it to have one monitor on the primary and one on the secondary, it seems that both monitors are installed on both adaptors. This makes it impossible for me to span my desktop between the 2 monitors, because the monitors are both displaying as display number 1. (rather than one being #1 and one being #2) It also seems that there are 4 monitors insallted too, when there are only 2. In device manager it syas there are 4 "default monitors".
Why is this happening, and can i get it to do what i want? Because it says that my card is a dual monitor card.

Did you try asking ATI's tech support people about this? If not, I'd start there...getting your info from "the horses mouth" is usually the best way to start.

Check in device manager to see what you have there for monitors. Setting up the monitors is a little tricky but you should be able to get it running. Have you gone into the advanced settings for your card? There are tabs for monitor, displays, options, and 7 others. Many of these tabs have a help abutton at the bottom.

Not sure if you found the solution but also look for a checkbox along the lines of "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" - on the 9000 properties box it's above the IDENTIFY button on the Settings tab. If it's grayed out, click on monitor #2 in the box above where it shows icons representing 1 and 2, then see if you can check the box. If you are able to, click OK out and test with your mouse. If you go all the way to the edge of the screen and the mouse stops and won't go onto the next screen, try all the way over to the other side to see if it flows to the 2nd monitor. It's always best (easiest) to set your primary monitor on the left and monitor #2 on the right, so when you go to the far right of #1, it "flows" left-right into monitor #2.
