I bought a new pc at the weekend and it came pre-installed with Windows ME..I then tried to upgrade to Windows 2000 but it wouldn't let me (I learned later that ME doesn't support upgrade to 2000)..I then tried to do a clean install and it got to a certain point and then said 'Make sure any Hard Disk Drives are powered on aand properly connected to your computer and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or set up program. Set up cannot continue'. Can anyone help?

If your MB has DMA 66/100 port then you will need to have the driver diskete available to install the drivers. Installation will prompt to press F6 to load other drivers, press F6 insert disk and you should be ok.

You need a driver disk to install drivers for UDMA 66/100 as W2K does have its own so you will need to press F6 and insert your driver disk to add drivers at the start of installation.

It apppears that W2K will not install in a FAT32 'area' prepared by ME; you have to use '98 (or '95b\c) to prepare a W2K (FAT32) area in advance; this may also be part of your problem?
