I have 1 40GB disk divided equally into two partitions. When I boot, 2K is default. If I let it count down, it always runs a consistancy check on drive F: which is my 2K installation. It will keep doing this unless I hit enter right away to choose 2K to boot up. No problems so far with 98 SE. Did I also need to install 2K in drive C: ? If so, can I fix this with out starting over?
Also, System Properties shows unknown CPU Type in 2K and doesn't show CPU at all in 98 SE.
TIA
-Rob

You have things setup correctly now. Each OS should occupy it's own partition.
What service pack are you running with Win2000? Have you ever installed the motherboard chipset drivers for either OS?
What MBoard and CPU do you have? If you don't know, try running SIW. SIW.exe can be found at the link below. YOu will need to install once for each OS.

Thank you for your reply, hire is the info:Run under W2K:

Have you ever let the drive test finish?
Are you shutting the computer down properly, or are you terminating a process in order to shutdown?

WOW, thanks for such a fast response!always let finish, and proper shut down:
Here is rest of info, mostly the same as 2k:

You didn't answer what service pack is installed on the Win2000 OS.
Your harddrive may be failing or there may be something wrong with the partitioning. How did you partition the drive? What file system are you using FAT32 or NTFS on the Win2000 partition?
You can download a drive fitness test from the hardddrive manufacturer's site.
Try using SIW.exe for better information on your computer. Find SIW at the link below.
Right click on My computer when running Win2000. Select properties> general. That screen will tell you what service pack you are running.

Both are FAT32
In Win98: A(Floppy), C(W98), D(W2K), E(CD), F(CD)
In Win2K: A(Floppy), C(W98), D(CD), E(CD), F(W2K)

It's a Maxtor.
I'm going to try this link i found:

Did everything elso look ok so far?

None of that other stuff should have any bearing on the issue you are having. Download a drive fitness utility and run it. Preferably from a CDR if there is a choice.

"How did you partition the drive?" This is from #5. If you used a third party partitioning and formatting software it might cause issues.
Look in Control panel at scheduled tasks to see if the scan is scheduled to run at startup.

Did not use third party utility.
Only 3 tasks: all nortonThis time when I boot up, I ran again against drive G which was my USB drive that I popped in just after I hit the power button. And I did hit enter right away to select the Win2K installation to boot to.
....I did use a utility called wiper to wipe the drive before installing anything on it. Mabey that has som issues or I did something wrong, but I haven't seen anything wiper's docs that would explain this.
