I got a Dell laptop pre-installed with W2K Pro (NTFS). I would like to install NT4.0 Server for dual boot.

I have used partition magic 6.0 to create a NTFS partition f:.

I tried installing NT4.0 but it over write the W2K WINNT on c:. I recovered the original W2K.
OS.

What can I do? Is it possible for dual boot?

A.When I tried installing NT, it does not ask me what folder. It just installs.

Q.did you specify to load NT onto the partition that is the F drive?

A. It does not ask which drive. I don't think NT recognizes the NTFS 5?

NT4 uses an older version of NTFS...therefore will not be able to read the NTFS5 that is with Windows 2000. If you are wanting to read files accross 2 partitions/hardrives then you will need to format win2k and install it again on a FAT16 formatted drive (you cannot convert with 2000 installed because it protects its files from being changed).

SP5 (and thus SP6) allows NT4 toread NTFS5... SP4 may also allow.

The only way I know how is to install NT first, the 2K install program is smart enough to let you specify its partition when you run the install, it will convert the NT4 partition to NTFS5 but leave the OS intact and present you with a dual boot menu when the system is restarted.
