Re the message with the same title as on 30/10/2002, thanks joey for help. I got partly success, but still encounter problem.
Let me descript my new situation now:
I have one 20G harddisk, wanna install two W2K Prof on it (10G/10G). The requirements are:
1) Whenever boot to either partition, the system drive is C:
2) Whenever boot to either partition, The other partition is hidden (no D: drive)I can overcome requirement (1) now. But I failed on requirement (2). I cannot hidden the other partition. (I can see the D: drive, and also see a E: drive which is FAT32 for installing BootMagic)
My sequcence for installing is:
- install W2K on the first partition (partition A)
- use Partition Magic to set the second partion (partition B) active and set partition B to hidden
- use W2K installation CD to boot up, then installed another piece of W2K on partition B and assign it a drive letter C:
- After installation complete, I use Partition Magic to set partition A active.
After boot up, I can see the system drive is drive C: and see the partition B as drive D:
- Then use Partition Magic to set partition B active. After boot up, I can see the system drive is also drive C: and see the partition A as drive D:
- Then I use Partition Magic to boot up, set back partition A to active. Resize partition A so that it can free 50M disk space at the beginning of the harddisk. I make the 50M free space as primary with FAT32.
- Remove the floppy and reboot the machine. The machine boots to partition A. Then I install Boot Magic on partition A. It select the FAT32 50M partiton to install.
- At the end of installation, The Boot Magic Configuration prompt up.
- I follow the BM8 help, select the "Advanced Partition Hiding". Then highlight the currently boot up partition(partition A), select Properties, click the Visible Partitions tab, check the "Override Default Selections", place a mark in the checkbox next to the FAT32 partition where BootMagic is installed (the 50M FAT32 partition)
- Click "Save" and reboot
- After reboot, I can see the BM menu. When I select partition A, it boots to partition A. System drive is C:, but I can still see the D: (partition B), and the E:(50M FAT32 partiton). Then I use BM -> partition info, I can see the partiton B and the 50M FAT32 partition are both with status hidden.
- Reboot again, and boot to partition B, it boots to partition B. System drive is C:, but I can see the D: (partition A), and also the E: (50M FAT32 partition)I still can't hide other drive.... And seems BM just help me to switch with which partition is being active only.
Is there anything wrong? (either the setting or the installation sequence ?)Thanks a lot

I don't know if it will make a difference but I'm using PM7.
Anyway, the sequence I used is as follows.
1. fdisk and fdisk mbr (make all HD one partition)2. Installed W98 as fat32 on entire HD
3. Installed PM7 and BM on W98
4. Resized the W98 partition to 1 GB
5. Use PM to make 2 PRIMARY partitions (NTFS 3GB each)after the W98 partition. Remainder of HD was partitioned as EXTENDED fat32 (to share among the 3 OS's)
6. Boot to W98, add the new PRIMARY partitions to the bootmenu. Set the first NTFS partition as default. Use PM to set this same partition ACTIVE and reboot with CDROM in drive and install W2k.
Note that when W2k is installed it may override the BM menu and only the W2k OS will be available. If this happens, restart with your BM rescue disk, follow the prompts to access BM and set it active. (this actually lets you access the W98 partition)
Reboot and ensure you can access each OS from the BM Bootmenu.7. Boot to W98. Set the second NTFS partition as default. Use PM to set this same partition ACTIVE and reboot with CDROM in drive and install your second W2k.
The same procedure as noted in point 6 will need to be followed.Although some of the real guru's probably has a better way to do this, it works for me.
Each of my OS's is the "C" drive. No OS can see any other OS. No "D" drive (except the common extended partition which all the OS share by design.
The W2k OS can see all the other partitions in Administrative Tools, Computer Management.
Since you probably don't want to fool with W98, I would ensure that both partitions are PRIMARY partitions, and install as above except for the W98 parts. Ensure that you make your rescue discs.
Good Luck

I had the exact same configuration and I believe to have found a much easier way...
1. I disabled BootMagic and then I removed the DOS partition containing BootMagic.
2. I Modified the boot.ini file in the first partition so it read as follows:
(Note: the boot.ini file is a hidden file in the root of the drive)[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional 1" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional 2" /fastdetectNow a menu will display when the computer starts and you can choose which OS to boot to.
3. Download TweakUI from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe4. Install TweakUI on both versions of W2K.
5. One of the options within TweakUI is to hide drives. Set it as needed.
I hope this helps.
PJ

One thing I forgot to mention,
Make sure you uninstall BootMagic before deleteing the DOS partition.Good luck!
