Any DSL Modem that connects by Ethernet should be compatible with Windows 2000. The only issue is if you have a DSL carrier that requires the use of PPPoE logon software that isn't compatible with Windows 2000, even then you can overcome that by using a router that can handle PPPoE logon for you.

I use bellsouth "fastaccess" and use RASPPPOE. I've had their traditional DSL with modem as well as fiber which requires no modem (straight to ethernet) and it's worked with both of them. I think most PPPoE is the same. Do a search for it.
