I just started using Bellsouth DSL about a week ago, and ever since I've had it, it disconnects over and over. Sometimes when it disconnects when I try to redial it gives me error 797 saying my modem is not installed or not working properly forcing me to reboot to connect.

Speaking of disconnecting I just got disconnected while typing this message =/

I called Bellsouth, but It wasn't very helpful. The lady told me to shut down, unplug the modem for 30 seconds, replug the modem, and boot up.

The connection lasts at the most 45-60 min. unless I'm really lucky I might get a little more out of it.

ALCATEL ADSL modem
Speedtouch USB (PPPoA)
Drivers are up to date.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Bad Line quality and distance from the CO may affect the DSLAM syncronization and disconnect your connection.

May sure there is no phone, fax, analog modem connect on the phone line.

I'm troubled by the same problems only my DSL is through South-Western Bell (same company, different location). It's not really bad line quality or distance fromt the CO, but the fact that SWBell or BellSouth doesn't really care about their customers and they put all their effort into the Companies DSL connections because they get more money from them than from us. My suggestion... drop DSL if u can and get Cable. True it's a little slower but it's a lot easier to mangage, esp if you are routing a connection. Good luck!

I've got similar problem.
the internet connections runs fine at boot-up.
But whenever I start some other applications like media player or encoding software, the connection seems to "sleep". the connections status seems to stand still. I could not receive data from the net.

I am using an ADSL line on an Athlon 1 Ghz processor. I have just switched from winME to Win 2K.
Pls help.

i have 98se at home. i had bell atlantic dsl. i was recieving 31k per sec downloads.... and EVERY time i used netmeeting, i lost the connection on 98se something in the netmeeting protocols was de-syncing the router.

answer: i am now on cable. i found dsl to be less than reliable in my area, and cable is faster in my area. going to 2000 should also help you. hope this helps a little!
