OS: Win2k SP4
CPU/Ram: 200 Mhz / 64 MB
Comment:

We have a few low-spec Acer PCs in a classroom with Win2k installed on HD1 and date files on HD2. Since HD1 is only 1.6 MB the OS a bit short of room to breath. I would like to delete the Driver cache folder (C:\Winnt\Driver cache) which is pretty big. I presume it's there in case I need to install any new equipment - which I don't - so does anyone know if it's safe to delete it? Will Windows complain?
Thanks.

I don't think it would be a problem, but to be on the safe side I would move the contents of the driver cache folder to another folder for a few days and see if you get any problems. If not, then you can delete the files.

Also, I presume you mean the HD is 1.6 Gb :)

I hope you meant 1.6 GB!

Instead of deleting folders, if you have a big enough D: drive, you could move the pagefile from C: to D: and free up several hundred MB's on C:

Those were the days when you could fit an OS on a floppy disk :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them out next week.

I just found an article in the MS Knowledge Base which answers my question and gives some other pointers for minimising the size of a Win2k install:
