1. IE keeps opening pages I did not ask to open! For example: I type www.google.com in the address bar and I wind up looking at a Thai pottery site??? My friend mentioned something about my DNS but I didn't quite understand what he was saying.
2. Every time I want to download a file, a window SHOULD open with the options Save to Disk and open file, right? Instead, it just automatically starts OPENING files instead of saving them. I tried fixing the problem in IE's settings but I can't find anything!
Thanks in advance for your help

use mozilla.

but really.. im perplexed as to this issue as well. I had a problem like this a while back and tried reinstalling ie and everything.. nothing worked. I ended up reimaging the system for unrelated issues and that fixed the prob.

I suggest opening a dos window and typing ...

ipconfig /registerdns

this will refresh your DNS settings and fix this little problem for you.

If the file is a exe or a com file it should not automatically open. there is a check box that says:
Always ask before opening this type of file.
if it was cleared when opening/saving a different type then that file type would not ask you anymore.
you can always right click on the file link and select "save target as" to download it where you want it.
