Comment:

Hi all,

I'm trying to get the dos game 'Transport Tycoon' to work in windows 2000.

It installs ok, and i can get it to run for about 15 seconds before this error comes up:

'Abnormal Program Termination:
Memory Protection Fault
CS:EIP xxxxx:xxxxxxxxx'

Now the x's are always different numbers and letters.

I tried running it through command.com with full screen and my sound didn't work so i downloaded VDM sound and that fixed it, but now it says i need more conventional memory.

My specs are:

Pentium 3 600
32mb TnT2 vid card
Crystal Codec sound card
windoes 2000 with Service pack 2

Install Windows 2000 Support Tools from the Win2K disk and run the Application Compatibility Tool. If that doesn't work, Oh Well ;)

the compatability option comes with service pack 2, however seeing as it is dos it doesn't let me choose to make it compatable with 95, 98 etc

BUt my biggest problem is the eror i recieve. if that can be fixed somehow the game will run

You're probably out of luck on that one man. You could always run DOS on your machine but you will need to load the game on a partition that has FAT 16 or something. DOS won't read NTFS4 or 5.

It is my understanding that Win2k draws the line on on programs that try to access the hardware directly. If it won't let Windows handle the hardware you are SOL.

Just to add into the list. XCOM Apocalypse doesn't work in Win2k too as it requires the use of old DOS buffer. I wonder if someone know the way of 'making' it works at win2k. if so, pls kindly email me. thanks.
