I am having problems with win 2000 shutdown and restart. I have tried everything possible with power management. I believe I need to upgrade the bios on my motherboard. An Asus P3B-F. I have the flash tool but it will not work at the command prompt. States 'cannot run in protected mode'. I have been trying to make a dos boot disk for hours with no success.
How do I make a dos boot disk in Win2000? Will this work?

Dont blame it on Windows 2000 just yet. I was having shutdown problems....and finally found the problem to be a application that was saving data on shutdown. When I disabled this program my computer shutdown normally. I wouldnt do a bios upgrade unless the manufacturer states some good reasons why you should. To do just to see if it fixes a problem is an accident waiting to happen. Many problems people have with Windows 2000 are not bios related, like the problem I just mentioned. So look further to what applications you have running, sometimes that is the source.
