Im very knew to DOS batch file programming and i've been doing some research but i figured it would be much quicker to ask people who have worked on this alot. Here is what i want to do.

change files with format:

########_CCCCC_CC_C_####_L_CCCC_####_C_C_C_C_C[C].xyz

# is a number
L is a letter
doesnt matter what is what all can be different.
C is a letter or number that does not change

to these files:

########_####_L_####.xyz

DOS Batch is not relevent, you have no REAL DOS, W2K like NT4, XP, Vista and W2K3 has NT COMMAND PROMPT, yes similar to MS-DOS but different commands available.
