Before anyone decides to go with Windows XP, or 2000 for that matter PLEASE go to http://www.grc.com/ and read about the DOS attack on the grc web site. Read far enough to find the part where Steve explains how all previous versions of Windows are limited in their ability to generate deliberately invalid Internet packets but how W2K and XP are not! What this means is that machines using W2K an XP will become hackers dream machines! They can and will use these machines to launch unstopable DOS attacks on anyone anywhere! Stop and think about it. Is it worth wreaking the Internet just for a new OS? Don't take my word for it. Go to Steve's site and read for yourself, if you dare.

He`s talking about win2000/xp being a TOOL FOR HACKERS so you should try convince them to give up their copy of windows.

Good Luck with that.

I think that you 2 have misunderstood the artical. Please read it again. W2K and XP will be/are tools for hackers BUT ON SOMEONE ELSES MACHINE! The "bots" are put on a host machine, an unprotected machine running Windows (of any type). The DoS attacks were from Windows based machines owned by unsuspecting people who happened to have thier machines on and were using a high bandwith ISP. The attacks did not come from one machine though the signal to attack did, from the hackers machine.

I still stand by my post. Even though I run ZoneAlarm many do not and many more do not use a firewall at all!

As far a being parinoid... That doesn't mean I'm wrong!

If you want to be safe and secure, don't hook any outside cables up to your computer and never use any software, and never load up any disks (hmm sounds like a t.v. now).... You CANNOT ever be safe from hackers (who do you think makes a virus?).....
