Hi,
I have 2 questions:1. If I have 2 domain controllers on the same subnet in the office, do I need to create a site link? One is a backup domain controller just in case the primary fails.
2. I promoted the backup domain controller to be the Master Schema when taking the primary domain controller offline for maintenance. I did the promotion under the "active directory schema", "active directory trusts and domains", and "active directory users and computers". I did this by using the "operations master" button for each of the above. Everything worked well. When I brought the primary domain controller back on line and transfered the master schema back to it, it transfered fine. The problem I am getting is that the new objects that I create on either domain controller are not getting replicated to the other domain controller. For example user, computer objects. If I reload the schema under under the "active directory schema" it will sometimes replicate. Also, if I do a forced replication under "Active Director Sites and Services" it will periodically work. Any ideas?

You do not need to create a site link.
I believe your problem may stem from the following. That you have a Domain Controller holding both the Global Catalog and the Infrastructure Master. These should not be on the same Domain Controller if you have multiple Domain controllers for a Domain.
Since you now have transfered all Masters back to DC one, what you should do is transfer the Infrastructure Master to the other DC.
If the Infrastructure Master and the Global Catalog reside on the same DC then the Infrasturcture Master doesn't recognize objects on the other DCs because it thinks it already has them.
