I bought a sony VAIO LAPTOP 2K-005 off of a fellow recently (Windows 2000 is the OS) but I got it and there is a password on it and now I cant bring it back. Im not exactly int to Hacking/Cracking realy so coual anyone help me get past it? Otherwise ill just have to but another hard drive and i dont want to do that. When it starts up it gets to the point where i press ctrl+alt+del and the pass word box comes up, ive tried formating the hard drive from the cd but as I only have a win 98 cd none of the commands work. Can some one plaese help???

Have you asked the idiot you bought it from what the password is? He should have removed it or told you what it was after you purchased it. If thats not an option, boot the computer with a win98 boot disk, then run fdisk and delete the win2k partition, which sounds likes it NTFS.

I DID THAT, DELETED ALL THE PARTIONS, IS SAID TO RESATRT AND FORMAT THE DISK so i did(sorry bout the caps ;) ) but whats the command for format, i just typed format but that aint working

After you delete the partition you need to use fdisk.........the same program you used to delete the partition. You need to create a new partition......then format it with FAT32. Then exit fdisk and at the A:prompt type format c: After you have formated it.......open fdisk again and set the primary partition to active. Then you can boot from your cd or a Windows 98 disk and install Windows 2000. These instructions are assuming you started this whole process by booting from a Windows 9x floppy. One tip for you......if your going to install Windows 2000 from Dos.....get a copy of smartdrv.exe from your Windows 98 cd and copy it to your Windows 98 boot disk. Before you start installing Windows 2000 type smartdrv.exe from the A:prompt. If you dont install smartdrv it will take hours to install Windows 2000 from dos.

Thanks, but he main problem now with the last couple of hours id that win 08 setup wont start i get different messages(I downloaded the driver for Tosiba DVD SD-C2502),one with mscd001 error and anther withoemcd001 error, can sme one PEASE help. ive been a this for hours and it should only take a couple of minsutes and the installing time

Are you sure the password isn't on the BIOS? People often do this to prevent people using them after they've STOLEN them. New BIOS chip or motherboard may be in order. Otherwise, if it's the win2k login, try the default administrator/admin login or system/admin. To format the hard drive, use a floppy and type format c: /q assuming Windows2k is on c:
