I have a windows 2000 server running DNS (no domain, the DNS server is authorative for the acmegroup. I need it to resolve ftp.acmeftp.com to an internal IP address instead of going out to the external address registered on the Internet. All attempts at resolving this have failed, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you,

Leto the just

First of all, an internal server should be .local and not .com
I have an internal FTP server and DNS isn't needed to connect but if you still want to connect using that name, edit the hosts file. For example I just added
192.168.0.200 queyosepa.local

So if I want to FTP using the name instead of the IP address, I can connect from a command prompt:

C:\>ftp queyosepa.local
Connected to queyosepa.local.
220 queyosepa.queyosepa.local FTP server (Version 6.00LS) ready.
User (queyosepa.local:(none)): don
331 Password required for don
Password:
230 User don logged in.
ftp> quit
221 Goodbye.

I would still rename the server to a .local
