I have a win 2000 server with 10 machines connected to it which are mixed from win 95 to win xp. On the server i have dns server setup (But not dhcp) and have setup up internet sharing through wingate. I have set the isp dns server addresses in forwarders and in the tcp/ip the dns is pointing to itself. I cannot understand why it is failing. Sometimes it fails after 1 hr sometimes after 3hrs. Then i have to run ipconfig /registerdns or stop and start again the dhcp service for internet to work again on ALL machines including server.(once it works on server it works on all as there is no problem regarding internet sharing) In the event viewer I have no problems relating to DNS. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your problem is more likely related to wingate than anything else.
Your server should have a statically assigned IP address. If you use RRAS with NAT enabled on your 2000 server instead of wingate, you'll likley find your problem goes away. RRAS has a built in DHCP service so you won't have to setup DHCP on the server. I've used this configuration many times and it's always worked perfectly.
