Comment: I have a Windows 2000 server running Exchange 2000 on it. The web site for this company is located at a offsite company but the domain is the same as the web site. So internally the users can not see the website but externally everyone see's the website, if I change the dns server to an external server I can't see the exchange box anymore. Any ideas?

Reply: (edit)I'm not sure I understand you completely but if I do have it right the following is true. You have a web site, hosted by another company (offsite) that is using the same DNS suffix as your LAN..........correct? If so, you need to set up a DMZ and can then safely allow LAN clients to access the web site. You can find plenty of info on DMZ's at microsofts web site and on the web.

Reply: (edit)add a new record called "www" (without quotes) into your DNS server that contains the IP address of the external website. When clients request www.yourdomain.com, it will get the website I think you are looking for.

Reply: (edit)Steve, What do you mean you won't be able to access your Exchange server? Are you talking about OWA? If so change that to owa.domainname.com not www.domainname.com then set the owa record to exchange server and www record to the web server and do an ipconfig /flushdns to refresh the dns cache and you should be good. Just remember to tell your ISP's DNS admin about the record changes if you expect everything to work externally.
