I keep getting an error when i try to connect to an internally hosted site. Ill get the standard DNS Error in IE. I can get to the site if i use the IP but not the name. This happens to me and various other people here at work every so often, every few days or a couple of weeks.

using ipconfig to flush and register the dns fixes the problem right away, but i dont want to have users having to do that.

We have both NT and 2000 Server running on our servers, the DNS machine is a 2000. Workstations are about half NT half 2000 with a few XP's as well.

NOTE: I have tried setting my negative cache setting to zero in the registry.

Are the workstations using a Proxy?

If so tell ie to bypass proxy for local addresses or if that fails try adding a forward file in the DNS server to point to the internal site

We do not use a proxy. And I have records for our internal sites in the forward look up zone. Is that what you ment by the forward file? The internal dns server does work, the problem occurs every few days for some, weeks for others and not at all for most people.

I found a way to fix it. Disabling the service for client side cacheing fixes this problem. You dont notice a diffrence when browsing and you dont have to deal with the problems caused by the DNS Client.
