Hi all.....
Can anyone give me a quick solution?? I have just installed Windows 2000 Server on 160gb Drive. After installation i checked the size of my drive and to my shock was 125gb free disk space. What happened to the rest.If im correct in saying so, i know that Windows will detect up to 130gb, but what happens to the the rest of the unpartitioned space? I also checked out disk management and no such luck! Even the BIOS recognizes the drive as being 160gb.
Any clues, anyone????
I appreciate your response in advance.

You answered your own question. Windows detects to 130 G - the other 30 G you have is invisible to Windows and not accessible. You need to create partitions. Create a small 2 or 3 Gig partition for windows 2000 and divide the rest up into whatever sizes you want. It does not make sense to install an Operating System on such a huge partition.
By installing your operating system on a small boot partition and keeping your other software and data separate, if the operating system becomes corrupt and you have to re-install it, your data is safe on one of the other partitions.

cleo, thats good advice i jsut learned something new today; that its only able to detect such a certain amount
-its a good thing microsoft did that
thanks

Frinds,
Have any of u used "partition magic" software?
I heard about it and when i tried downloading demo version it asked lot of information from me and finally it failed to down load.
So please tell me can i do partition on a disk which has windows 2000 now.
And i do not want to format my hard disk.
Only i want to do partition. Is it possible?.
And if yes what are the parameters i should keep in mind befor doing partision?
I have a 20 Gb disk.
Thanks in advance.
Nikhil.

Nikhil,
You don't need to use "Partition Magic" in Windows 2000, you can use Disk Managment. Right-click Mycomputer>Manage>Storage>Disk Management. Click the area of free space and right click and select new volume from the context menu. But you have to format the partition, otherwise you wont be able to access the created volume.
