I have a disk that is full of information, however when I try to read it "Disk not formatted" is displayed. I not only fifteen minutes ago was updating a spreadsheet on the disk and took it out for a few minutes when I remembered that I had to update another file. Unfortunately, I cannot read anything on the disk anymore. Is all that data lost?

What kind of disk? Floppy, Zip, Hard Drive? And did you save your last entry?

It was a 3.5 floppy disk and I yes I did save my last entry. I have like 6 to 7 spreadsheets on that disk.

I had the same problem the other day - the contacts were dirty on the ribbon cable connecting the drive to the motherboard. Try unplugging and plugging back in each end of the cable a few times.
