I am using a Gateway laptop, with one hard drive split into 3 volumes - C,E & F.
When I run the Disk defragmenter on my C drive, it stops during the analyze portion with an error stating: ScanFat: Scan Aborted - Fatal Error and lists a file ...\Recycled\Dc8.sv$. This is the second time it happened. The first listed a different file, that I located and deleted. I cant seem to locate this file. Any ideas on how to get beyond this so that I can defrag?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hi,

I think you have a Hardware problem on your HD.
Try to scan the disk with autofix problems.
The Operating System will create a folder file like FILE000.CHK that reserves that bad sectors to him. Don't clean ever this folder and then you can do a clean defrag of your Pc.
That is on of the possibles, the other one could be a HD space problem. Please check if you have enough space storage to do defragmentation (sometimes pc needs disk space to swap files when memory is not enough).
