disk boot failure

i installed a CDRW into my sons pc which has win 2k prof. At first it would only open in safe mode because of unknown hard error ntdll\dll and advised me to uninstall and disconnect all recent hard/soft ware which I did. Since then it recognises no IDE drives except floppy and tells me there is a disk boot failure. Help anybody.....please

Start by making sure the ide cables are firmly seated. Next remove the cdrom drive to make sure your system boots.

I suspect you need to configure the cdrom drive as slave or other configuration issue is the problem
