This guy I know has a computer that gives a "Disk boot failure Please insert bootdisk" error everytime he turns the computer on. But whenever he restarts the system it boots up fine. I notice it only picks up the hard drive on restarts. He has a new hard drive and a new ide cable. Is there anything else I can do to fix this or is it possible his primary ide port on motherboard is going bad.

It may be that his cmsos battery is dying.

Replace it and I'd bet the problem goes away.
