A co-worker using a Compaq M300 is having a problem that's been stumping me. His mouse pointer shows up fine on the desktop and on the menu bar of any of the Office 2000 applications, but when he puts it over text it disappears. You can left click and the cursor will then appear, but you have no way of seeing where that point is going to be ahead of time. We've tried re-installing the appropriate touchpad driver but that didn't help nor did changing the pointer schemes or colors. The problem occurs both when using the touchpad or if you attach an external mouse. Any suggestions?

I've just resolved this on my own computer. It appears that there was some problem with the specific pointer. I went into Mouse Properties -> Pointers and changed the Text Select Pointer. Things work again.
